Musical Wednesday with Jacques Surette

Jacques Surette is a 25-year-old singer-songwriter from Yarmouth, Nova Scotia, whose natural charm captivates audiences. He began playing guitar at age 12 and started writing his own songs at 14. He initially wrote a few songs in English but quickly realized that French was the language through which he most wanted to express himself musically. His lyrics take listeners on a journey through his corner of the world. He first gained recognition in the Maritimes, but has also made a name for himself in Quebec, Louisiana, Switzerland, and France. He offers an intimate live show and school workshops where he emphasizes the importance of creating in French. His show takes the audience on a journey through his corner of the country and invites them to discover his local dialect, the Acadjonne, and his life as a young artist.

In June 2019, he released his first folk-pop album, titled “Marche, marche, marche,” co-produced by Lisa LeBlanc and Benoit Morier. His second album, “Jacques Surette II” (2020), was produced by Mike Trask and Christien Belliveau. It is a bilingual album with folk-country influences for the French-language tracks and alternative rock for the English songs. His third album, titled “Conséquences” (2023), was produced by Éric Dion and André Lavergne (Dans l’Shed). His fourth album, “Les vieux chapeaux” (October 16, 2025), which was recorded with an all-Nova Scotian team, is a co-production by Charles Robicheau and Jacques Surette. His four albums are released on the Acadian label Le Grenier Musique, based in Moncton.
